A slice of paradise tucked away in the Karoo midlands lies the World Heritage Site of the Baviaanskloof. Spending a couple of days exploring the area, finding the hidden gems.

From Willowmore in the west to Patensie in the east connected by the solitary gravel road. Lie a scattering of farms, guest accommodation, primary school, hamlet, eatery and nature reserve.

Vero’s Restaurant
Best known for the only item on the menu. Rooster koek served hot with a choice of cheese, ham or apricot jam. On a busy day one does need to wait.




The garden at Vero’s holds a display of a variety of art pieces carefully crafted by the locals.
Rietrivier Makkedaat Caves
Accommodation is made up of 7 caves carved out of the mountain.



Zandvlakte
This is an operational farm within the Baviaanskloof Hartland Private Game Reserve. Offering well appointed accommodation in old restored buildings dating back from 1811 to 1900’s.






Baviaanskloof Nature Reserve and World Heritage Site
A UNESCO World Heritage site, Baviaanskloof Nature Reserve lies on the Eastern side of the Baviaanskloof Valley system. The distance from the Western Gate to the Eastern Gate is 72km allowing for a travelling time of 4 to 5 hours.
